About The S&W Market

Located in Asheville’s historic Art Deco S&W Building, The S&W Market is a downtown food hall and event space featuring a curated mix of local vendors, craft beverages and community-driven experiences. Originally opened in 1929 as the S&W Cafeteria and reimagined in 2021, the space now brings together Asheville’s vibrant culinary talent under one iconic roof.

Designed by renowned architect Douglas Ellington and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the building is a cornerstone of Asheville’s distinctive Art Deco skyline—making The S&W Market a unique destination for dining, gatherings and special events.

The S&W Market is a food court in Asheville, North Carolina. It is listed at 56 Patton Ave, Asheville, NC 28801, which places it among the local businesses of Asheville that residents and visitors turn to when they need this kind of service close by. Besides its main category, the business also describes itself as beer hall, restaurant, so it may cover more than the name suggests.

These businesses tend to have short hours built around lunch and early dinner rather than late-night service, so checking the listed hours before heading out in Asheville saves a wasted trip. Seating is often limited or first-come, and many locations lean toward takeout or delivery rather than dining in. Prices are generally lower than full-service restaurants in the same category, which makes this group a reliable option for a fast, inexpensive meal across North Carolina. Portions can be smaller at food-court counters than at a stand-alone restaurant, so ordering two items is common for a full meal. Many of these businesses are independently owned even inside a shared food hall, so hours, accepted payment methods and whether a counter takes online orders can differ from stall to stall within the same building.

Hours are published for 7 days a week. On most of those days it is open 9 am–8 pm. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. The listed phone number is (828) 575-5236. Many businesses also reply to text messages on the same number if it is a cell phone. More information is available on its website, swmarketavl.com.

Customers rate it 4.5 out of 5 on Google across 478 reviews, placing it among the better-regarded food courts & halls in Asheville.

I thought it was a market but I still was happy when I found it. It's really a food court. I love the India one in the back right. Delicious with real meat. And obviously marinated because the flavor was extremely delicious and so tender!

A nice food hall open all day. When going I would recommend looking into the places beforehand to know what you might be interested in. Lots of variety to choose from though. The best that I had tried in here was “The Flour” which had a great breakfast biscuit. Was not super busy earlier in the day, but got slightly more active towards lunchtime.

This place has a lot of different restaurants to choose from. There are a few points. You wanna know walking into this building, though. First, the amount of people in here is heavy, so if crowds aren’t your thing come out at off time not a major breakfast lunch or dinner time. Choose your food wisely. There’s a new place in there that makes the best biscuits in the world called “flour.” it’s probably the best biscuit sandwich that you’ll ever eat in your life, but be prepared to wait 40 minutes to get it. I highly recommend the sushi and there’s a fried chicken sandwich place in there that doesn’t mean fried chicken sandwich. Choose your time wisely, but be sure and stop by here for a great meal.

During my recent visit to S & W Market in Asheville, NC, that showcased a variety of delicious offerings. The highlight of my meal was the Thai pork skewers, which were perfectly cooked and accompanied by a fantastic spicy sauce that added just the right amount of heat. The chicken sandwiches were equally impressive, featuring tender, flavorful chicken paired with crispy fries that were golden and satisfying. In addition to the excellent food, the market's coffee shop offered a delightful selection of beverages. My son thoroughly enjoyed his matcha, which was prepared to perfection. The ambiance of S & W Market is both welcoming and vibrant, making it a great spot for a meal or a quick coffee break. Overall, I highly recommend S & W Market for its diverse and delicious food options, friendly atmosphere, and excellent service.

I love food halls, so when I found out one opened in Asheville, I stopped by on my most recent trip. The inside of the renovated building is really nice. It's a very small food hall. There are only 6 food stalls (though one is a brewery that doesn't serve food). Small selection aside, we enjoyed our food. We tried Farm Dogs, Bun Intended, and The Hop. There's some seating inside as well as a few tables on the sidewalk outside. If you're in the area, I think it's worth stopping at to try one or two of the places.
